Artist's Statement: How can we use simple materials in different ways to create new outcomes? Drawn from life, and made with black ink, “Ink Forms”, depicts an old man in two poses- sitting tiredly and then turning away. I experimented with unconventional ways to apply layers of ink to the page, using a small triangle of cardstock instead of a brush or pen. As the cardstock soaked up the ink I found that I could create lighter more textured strokes on the page. I experimented with different ways to apply the ink- smaller movements using the tip of the cardstock to make precise lines, and using the flat side to make big bold marks. I leaned into the chaotic medium and tried to fully let go of perfectionism when creating this.
