My height,
my weight, my age, my race, my religion; See me. The dance I dance, the song I sing, the clothes I wear, the makeup I put on; See me. Though my mind tells me I am weak, that I am not worth it, that I am not good enough, that I am not wanted; My mind lies. My body is my temple, my garden, my home. My temple gives me life. See my losses and see my wins. See me. |
Editors liked the repetition of "see me" throughout the poem and the brevity of the lines, which allow us to focus on the present moment. We also found the poem empowering. Hannah is a 10th grade student of Maquoketa Valley High School.
