Artist's Statement: How does color affect the way we view identity and emotion? Illustrated from life, and made from colored pencil and marker, “The Blue Girl”, depicts a college student sitting blankly at her desk. This student is a fellow classmate in my Drawing and Painting class who sits across from me. Just like the portrayal, she has a very vibrant and colorful personality- and through my art I can dig into what makes someone who they are. This piece is a mixture of abstraction and representation- an exploration of the relationship between form, color, and emotion. Inspired by individuality I used bright unconventional colors and placement to portray personality and likeness, and invite the viewer into a world where color and abstract form become the language of identity.
