You say I don't try.
You say I buy my way in. You say I'm lazy. You say I don't know what pain is. You say I'm not good enough. So, here I am waiting for you to notice . . . the hours I put in to make you proud. The tears I hold back and fight forward. The sleepless nights of endless studying. The smile I fake and the lies I make . . . just to make you proud. So, here I am waiting for you to notice . . . perfection isn't easy. |
"Everyone has been chastised by their parents or an adult before. This poem is about a child who is so frustrated because they can never do anything right, but they always strive for perfection. I was hoping to create a sense of hopelessness and wanting with this poem, something that we can all relate to in life." - Lauren Kimani, 11th grade, Regina High School.
