Why can’t I delete what I just said
What I just thought in my head
What I whispered alone in bed
I wish it were deleted
Why can’t I press backspace
To return to yesterday
When no worries wrinkled my face,
When treasures were candy,
Not validation
When knowledge was 2+2=4,
Not a single score
When the world was my playground,
Not the throne of war
When I didn’t know any better
I wish it were deleted
Why can’t I click CTRL + N
To rewrite the play
The script is tainted
By my mistakes
I wish it were deleted
What I just thought in my head
What I whispered alone in bed
I wish it were deleted
Why can’t I press backspace
To return to yesterday
When no worries wrinkled my face,
When treasures were candy,
Not validation
When knowledge was 2+2=4,
Not a single score
When the world was my playground,
Not the throne of war
When I didn’t know any better
I wish it were deleted
Why can’t I click CTRL + N
To rewrite the play
The script is tainted
By my mistakes
I wish it were deleted
Writer's Statement: While writing these poems, I dove into the complexity of my thoughts and emotions as I envisioned my future and dwelt on the past. I hope other teenagers can relate to my poems and feel a sense of relief that someone in this world feels the same.
