My Friend the Balloon
By: Laura Manis
Whenever I look behind
A red balloon is not hard to find
I feel it in the morning air
I try my best to just not care
Block out the noise
Block out the stares
It’s there in the nightly glow
Stopping by to say hello
I wish I could pop it on sight
To get the hope that I might
Get to live a normal life
For the balloon I see
Is only just for me
He lives in a place no one can find
And that place
Is my mind
A red balloon is not hard to find
I feel it in the morning air
I try my best to just not care
Block out the noise
Block out the stares
It’s there in the nightly glow
Stopping by to say hello
I wish I could pop it on sight
To get the hope that I might
Get to live a normal life
For the balloon I see
Is only just for me
He lives in a place no one can find
And that place
Is my mind
Writer's Statement: Poetry is an amazing outlet. It is a wonderful thing to be able to translate what’s inside your head into metaphors and rhymes! My Friend The Balloon deals with the internal struggles of mental health. I hope readers feel they are not alone! Many of us out there too, have a red balloon. I also hope readers feel the first love innocence of Eyes Intertwined and the angst of Perfect.
