If There Were One Day
By: Adina Lippman
If there were one day
Yes, just a single day
When time would slow down
When one could see every scent
When one could feel every sound
If there were one day
The Tree would slow down her dance
She would lift up her deep roots from the earth
She would extend her long, powerful limbs
She would let the dew trickle down her rough bark
And feel the burning morning sun bask her in its embrace
If there were one day
The Tree would calmly look around
She would take a moment to let it all sink in
And now she dashes as fast as the wind
To the field of crisp autumn leaves
Where she will write
Where her words will form a melody
And sing
On this one day
Her branches whisper in the wind as she harmonizes with the birds
She twirls and twirls, free falling into the pile of crunchy leaves
Now nothing reaches her except the scent of warmth
And a sweet smile takes its place as happiness courses through her
Her eyes are the deep, mysterious night sky
Twinkling with hope for tomorrow
If there were one day
To slow down
Before the rain freezes to snow
To finally feel
Writer's Statement: While writing these poems, I dove into the complexity of my thoughts and emotions as I envisioned my future and dwelt on the past. I hope other teenagers can relate to my poems and feel a sense of relief that someone in this world feels the same.
