Threads
By: Avalina Andrew
Sometimes hearts are heavier than they should be
So heavy that you must drag it behind you
So heavy that it’s hanging by a thread
Seeing that thread so close to breaking
Is the hardest thing to witness
Because it would be so much easier to cut it
To let go of all that extra weight
It’s so simple.
So convenient.
But then you carry the new burden of feeling nothing at all
And I’d rather prick my finger on a thorn
Than lose the ability to smell roses
You have to feel the pain so that when relief comes you can recognize it
And enjoy the sensation.
Our bodies. Our minds. Our spirits.
They’re not invincible
To pretend that nothing hurts is to betray yourself.
Allow yourself to feel that range of emotions
Live through your feelings and experiences
Life is more than the air coming in and out of your lungs.
Life is about why you continue to breathe
So hold on to those threads
As tight as you possibly can.
