The Black Dress
By: Zephyr Henderson
Verse One
Streetlight
I remember walking home at midnight
Hands brushing
Too afraid to say goodbye
Or kiss goodnight
But we had it all
Red mask
I remember reaching out for your hand
Unspoken words
And undiscussed plans
Haunted me
All the way home
Chorus One
What if she hadn't been there darling
Would we still be in this mess?
Would you still ignore me honey
Is that night filled with re-grets
Cause I miss you
And I remember
The Black Dress
Verse Two
Walk past
Still got me in the palm of your hands
Feels like I'm always on the defense
Trying to get you back in my life
And so what if it's
Secret glances
Midnight dances
Abandoned parking lots
I'm not
Scared who sees us
They’d believe us if we
Said we’re in love
Chorus Two
What if he hadn't beat you baby
Would I be wrapped in your arms
And if he hadn't been your friend
Would we be partying all night long
Cause I miss you
And I remember
The Black Dress
Verse Three
Why is everything different, I cry out
Why is there so much distance right now
Five feet feels like five miles
When - you - walk right past me
You’re too afraid to admit what I know
All of my friends think you’re an asshole
And I, don't blame them
But they don't know you like I did
Which is why I can't forget
Final Chorus
I remember
Running through halls
And ignoring his calls
I remember
Triple tying my laces
I thought we were going places
I remember
Feeling your hands
Running over my pants
I remember
Hugging goodbye
Know it's such a sad sight
What if she hadn't been there darling
Would we still be in this mess?
Would I still wish on shooting stars
Just to feel your hand
Cause I miss you
And I remember
The Black Dress

Writer's Statement: This was a song I created after a date I had experienced. I was so enthralled by this 'love' I had felt for the boy that I couldn't help but write it down. It was created to sound like an early Taylor Swift song and I think it did its job. This is hands-down one of my favorite songs I've written.
