I’m afraid to live
In a world without you
I’m afraid of time,
Ever against me,
But impervious to you.
I deny.
My hands shake.
I won’t believe you’re gone,
It feels like a lie.
The memories feel
Like blades in my heart,
Because I know now,
That is all that you are.
My throat burns
With the things
I never got to say.
My eyes wet
With the memories
We never got to make.
This place,
It’s you.
It will always be,
From the baseball hats,
To the pictures of you
With me.
My heart hurts,
Worse than a break
It’s shattered,
And your piece
Has gone away.
We must live
In a world without you
In a world without you
I’m afraid of time,
Ever against me,
But impervious to you.
I deny.
My hands shake.
I won’t believe you’re gone,
It feels like a lie.
The memories feel
Like blades in my heart,
Because I know now,
That is all that you are.
My throat burns
With the things
I never got to say.
My eyes wet
With the memories
We never got to make.
This place,
It’s you.
It will always be,
From the baseball hats,
To the pictures of you
With me.
My heart hurts,
Worse than a break
It’s shattered,
And your piece
Has gone away.
We must live
In a world without you
Writer's Statement: This is the second poem written about my Grandpa. I wrote this one the day before his funeral.
