Happiness, the greatest lie.
A lie that we all share, a lie written to always be unfair.
Anxiety and depression, the truth we can not hide from,
the truth that we all run from.
A love unspoken, fear broken.
We smile to hide our darkness, one we cannot hide from,
even in a time of brightness.
Broken and shattered we all are,
lying to ourselves and to others, never telling,
a smile is just the tie we all share,
We use it to hide our broken, because we can not be spared.
Crying consumes our time in isolation,
lies consume our time in conjunction.
We lie to everyone to hide how broken we truly are,
Because lying is easier than sharing our broken side.
Writer's Statement: I wrote this poem to express the idea that everyone can lie about being happy and have a massive tendency to do so.
