The rain will rise up from the earth and touch the sky
Leaves will shatter when the ground touches them
Nothing but glass shards to our feeble imaginations
Fish will fly above our heads
We would revere them as birds
The trail will blaze red with our footsteps
We will never lose our way
Trees will grow around our houses,
We live inside the plants
Forests will illuminate with the soft glow of fairy lights
Hanging from tree tops
Our gazebo will sink to the bottom of the river
We’ll visit it every Sunday
Books will lose their definition
We’ll learn to write in paintings
Light will no longer run through these windows
We will find a sun lamp for our souls
I will dive into a lake the water will not touch me
I will bathe in a sea of memory
I will call you
I will call you and we will dance one last time
I will call you and we will get lunch
I will call you and we’ll buy that bag that costs too much
We’ll jump up and down
We’ll make our childhood meals
We’ll get coffee
And it won’t be as much as the weight of our prayer
On the day I love myself more than I love you
Even God will look up at us and say
“Finally,
Something you did right”
Leaves will shatter when the ground touches them
Nothing but glass shards to our feeble imaginations
Fish will fly above our heads
We would revere them as birds
The trail will blaze red with our footsteps
We will never lose our way
Trees will grow around our houses,
We live inside the plants
Forests will illuminate with the soft glow of fairy lights
Hanging from tree tops
Our gazebo will sink to the bottom of the river
We’ll visit it every Sunday
Books will lose their definition
We’ll learn to write in paintings
Light will no longer run through these windows
We will find a sun lamp for our souls
I will dive into a lake the water will not touch me
I will bathe in a sea of memory
I will call you
I will call you and we will dance one last time
I will call you and we will get lunch
I will call you and we’ll buy that bag that costs too much
We’ll jump up and down
We’ll make our childhood meals
We’ll get coffee
And it won’t be as much as the weight of our prayer
On the day I love myself more than I love you

Writer's Statement: In this piece I was trying to explore the feelings of impossibility not only for self love, but for the love one feels towards someone/something that is so strong and unshakable that it feels as if nothing would allow them to love themselves as they love that person/thing. I was exploring a a longing for not only that person, but also the longing to be able to finally shake that feeling.
