sleeping gypsie
By: Kay Lee
the gypsie lies, hair
tangled in the sand, eyes
closed and head turned up
towards the sky that perhaps may
be full of stars in a
smoky dream.
her teeth smile as bright
as the moon as it brushes fingers
against the smooth line of the lion
in the desert brushing
its maw against the fragile caress
of her throat.
still and unreal it stands captured
in time with its head lowered to
her chest contemplating
the life it now holds between
the paws hidden
behind the slope of the dune.
the night is cold
and calm

behind the slope of the dune.
the night is cold
and calm
