Sweet Honey Bee Stings
By: Adina Lippman
They flash on like a blinding light
I can’t feel a thing
They mingle,
They buzz,
Fuzzing my brain
The first sting is bearable
“You’re annoying”
As is the second
“You’re a failure”
The third
“You’re worthless”
The fourth
“Nobody likes you”
The fifth...
“It’s all your fault”
Already I am mired,
Trapped,
In their sticky, gluey honey
They bombard my mind, a colony of bees swarming their hive
I didn’t go searching for their home
Or asking for their honey
But they’re there
And I believe them
For who else is there to blame,
Except me?
The bees are never silenced
They feed on my sleep
Their stings poison me
Leaving me raw
And weak
All I have are the bees
Their sweet honey bee stings
Are the only thing I can feel
My hive is left barren and dry,
And although the bees remain, their honey is bitter,
Almost tasteless
Thank you,
Sweet

Writer's Statement: While writing these poems, I dove into the complexity of my thoughts and emotions as I envisioned my future and dwelt on the past. I hope other teenagers can relate to my poems and feel a sense of relief that someone in this world feels the same.
