I don't know what I am doing

Just floating like a boat doing some canoeing

I want to go and see that lake

But all I can do is heartache

For that loss I feel

Everything has lost its appeal

And now all I want to do is squeal

This all seems so blatantly empty

Just like that old hollowed out canoe

That I just might fall through

If this heartache doesn't subdue

It's no longer black and blue

Its full of vivid colors

Just all without you

So, I’ll just go float on a canoe

And try and find the reason to be on this lake

Or maybe go and get a milk shake

But it seems so hard

When I feel like I’m walking through a graveyard

With someone else

But I look around and my heart melts

This must be a solo quest

And I must keep trying my best

So, I’ll just float on that canoe

Until I find a reason to come through

And start anew

To enjoy this field of view

That lake looks as beautiful as methane blue

Writer's Statement: ​This poem is about the feeling of loss after you have lost a family member who made you who you are as a person. This goes through the complex feelings of trying to move on through grief and find acceptance.
